This is what you need to do if you will be in germany for over 1 month. You need to buy a german prepaid cell phone for only 20 Euro’s. You should get a D1 or O2 phone. All incoming calls are free now it cost about 25 cents per minute to use one, now what you do is, you buy AT &T prepaid phone calls BEFORE YOU GO TO GERMANY buy at least at 50 dollar one, now if you call a toll free number on your phone it takes NO MINUTES from your phone only the phone card, and on top of that YOU dont have to HAVE MINUTES on your prepaid phone to even use it to dial the calling card. When you get the phone you will call 0800 225 5288 then follow the prompt which will either ask for you pin then the number which you are calling which you would dial 0+11
yeah at any gas station and there cheaper than in the us
You don’t really need a calling card here in Germany. Most cities have phone centers where calling the US (or anywhere else) is pretty cheap – maybe 10 cents a min. …so a 30 min. call would only be like 3 euros.
There are phone shops in the bigger cities where you can call home, but mostly I agree with Ronald (don’t know why he’s got such a low rating): You can buy a used cellphone for as little as 20 euros and then insert a prepaid card with really cheap rates for international calls. — The best option, however, still will be that you find a friend who owns a landline phone and find out the cheapest rates to call home; it can be as little as 1 cent per minute, but be prepared for more.
Of course, there are a lot of choices. You can buy an international long distance calling card before you leave for Germany. I did that before I left for Japan and called my parents from Japan airport payphone.
You can buy a certain amount which is enough for you during your whole trip. Or you can refill them online if you can access internet.
Check out to compare and learn about Germany local access phone number which you need to dial to connect to your local calling card network.
The best one I find is Solaris calling card. The calling rate is $0.025 / minute, no maintenance fee, rounding – 1 minute.
Hope the above information is helpful to you. Good luck and enjoy your trip.
Yes there are a lot of them go in any phone shop or internet cafe.
