Almost alike will not cut it I am sure you know.

What kind of memory does your phone use? Micro SD? Something else?

Most P&S cameras use SD / SDHC cards, two use xD (Olympus and some Fujifilm) and one uses Memory Sticks (Sony).

    Cell memory cards:

Most of the Cellphones are use MicroSD a.k.a. TransFlash and some Smartphones use SD card.

So, as long as you use the same format, they are interchangeable.

However, that does not means either devices can read whatever data stored inside the memory card.

Well, the answer depends on your cellphone’s brand.
Most of the cellphones out there use a microSD(smallest) or MiniSD(smaller than SD) type memory card which when purchased is usually included with a SD memory adapter so it can fit in digital cameras that use SD cards. If this applies to your situation, then make sure to not exceed 2GB range to be safe.
I would suggest to get a set of two, because the MicroSD adapter is very hard (because of its tiny size) to remove from the cellphone repeatedly.
I included these links for your convenience. One has a 2GB microSD card with a USB reader, the other one has a 2GB MicroSD card with a MiniSD adapter and a full size SD adapter (for the camera). That way you keep one for the cellphone and the other for the camera. The USB reader will allow you to plug the MicroSD card for your phone or camera to drag and drop pics or songs without the need of software.
    Good Luck.
