America’s “Recovery” By the Numbers, Facts

June 6th, 2011 No comments

As I read through this article several things went through my mind. We’re an enigmatic people. We hold the government accountable for economic woes yet feverishly guard any kind of government intervention or manipulation in the economy. 35+ years of trickle-down supply-side tomfoolery has handed the keys out our economic vitality over to corporations and banks more concerned about duking it out for pole position in their fiefdoms than actually building one lousy thing that helps America or its people. You’d have thought by now that we’d realize that creating an illusion that our future impinges on how well multinational giants and our buddies on Wall Street can gouge us is what has us in the shape we’re in… and has them posting record profits at a time when our recovery looks so lackluster.

The self-same guys who threaten to pull up their paper diapers and rip out of here if we don’t lavish them with pat downs, grapes, and dates for every corporate board meeting continue to prevail upon our legislative branch to increase their powers, privileges, tax dodges, and profits for nothing while avoiding any semblance of a conversation about the government standing up and being powerful enough to help the people. Import tariffs (protectionism) and restructuring taxes continue to be a third rail argument.

How can you blame the government for the economy while clipping its wings and not allowing it to actually do anything to improve our economic condition? How long will it be before corporations and banks begin to feel a genuine backlash for their abuses leading to us speaking out and taking better control of our futures and our economy by re-empowering Uncle Sam and then holding his foot to the fire?

Rice and beans, beans and rice

I watched the kid at the gas station change the price on my way in, sat in line for 20 minutes, and he was back up a ladder when I came out.  So…of course, I checked the dollar index, and have been sitting here, watching it fall.  If the dollar goes below 72, we’ll be right back at “ground zero” for this economic downfall.  As the dollar wobbles on the edge, kids across America wobble on their ladders, changing prices on gas and everything else.

We haven’t seen anything yet.  The fan is on high, better get an umbrella.

And a side note.  As I predicted months ago, I refused to pay what they wanted for my bread today at Safeway.  Too bad I always said no to offers of bread makers.  They’ll soon be hot commodities.  :smileysurprised:
