America’s “Recovery” By the Numbers, Facts

June 6th, 2011 No comments

As I read through this article several things went through my mind. We’re an enigmatic people. We hold the government accountable for economic woes yet feverishly guard any kind of government intervention or manipulation in the economy. 35+ years of trickle-down supply-side tomfoolery has handed the keys out our economic vitality over to corporations and banks more concerned about duking it out for pole position in their fiefdoms than actually building one lousy thing that helps America or its people. You’d have thought by now that we’d realize that creating an illusion that our future impinges on how well multinational giants and our buddies on Wall Street can gouge us is what has us in the shape we’re in… and has them posting record profits at a time when our recovery looks so lackluster.

The self-same guys who threaten to pull up their paper diapers and rip out of here if we don’t lavish them with pat downs, grapes, and dates for every corporate board meeting continue to prevail upon our legislative branch to increase their powers, privileges, tax dodges, and profits for nothing while avoiding any semblance of a conversation about the government standing up and being powerful enough to help the people. Import tariffs (protectionism) and restructuring taxes continue to be a third rail argument.

How can you blame the government for the economy while clipping its wings and not allowing it to actually do anything to improve our economic condition? How long will it be before corporations and banks begin to feel a genuine backlash for their abuses leading to us speaking out and taking better control of our futures and our economy by re-empowering Uncle Sam and then holding his foot to the fire?

Inflation undercuts Chinese economy and world stability

April 19th, 2011 No comments

This may cause revolution in China. People don’t have much to begin with.

High inflation endangers China’s status as the low-cost workshop for the world. And if the government’s efforts to fight inflation cause the economy to stumble, that will cloud the outlook for international businesses — whether multinationals like General Electric or copper miners in Chile — that have been counting on China for growth.

Inside China, inflation also poses a threat to social stability, a particular worry for Beijing, especially since authoritarian governments in North Africa and the Middle East have become the focus of popular uprisings.

Huge Insider Trading Case Features Multibillion-Dollar Deals, Wiretaps

http://www.aolnews.com/2011/04/04/insider-trading-case-against-raj-rajaratnam-features-multibillio/

Rajaratnam, the 53-year-old founder of the Galleon Group hedge fund, has sat in court from the first day of the trial, which began in March, and heard his old classmates from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania testify against him.

In the past 3 1/2 weeks, the government has played secretly recorded conversations in which Rajaratnam and his sources exchange information about the quarterly earnings of companies and what deals are brewing in different boardrooms.

Galleon Group hedge fund co-founder Raj Rajaratnam leaves Manhattan Federal Court on March 23 during his trial on insider trading charges in New York City.  The prosecution has called four key witnesses including Lloyd Blankfein, the head of Goldman Sachs Group, who was asked to testify about a former director in the firm, Rajat Gupta.

Social Security COLA not coming….again!

March 28th, 2011 No comments

Well, it has been reported that because of the NEW way the Cost of Living is being calculated by the Administration in the WH since 2009 recipients of Social Security and Social Security Disability are going for 3 straight years of not getting any increase in their monthly check. Since the inception of Social Security there has not been a single year that recipients of SS have not gotten a raise even though one party has made political statements that should the conservatives ever get elected, they would take your SS. All I know is that the Liberal Party is the one that has told me that the Cost of Living has not gone up at all for the last three years so I don’t need anymore money. Imagine that!

Additionally my State Disability pension is tied into the Government CoL reports, they did not provide me with any raise either last year. I hope that they ignore the Federal report like they did in 2009 and 2010 and at least give us something!

MY cost of living certainly has gone up! Groceries have jumped up 5-10% as has everything else. The Feds are saying this is ONLY because of a temporary increase in oil prices and that they are no longer counted because they are not stable!

Well, that is certainly change. Not anything that UI could be happy with or even think that is fair. My taxable income might increase a little but my Mediacre costs are going to take that and then some which means I get taxed more but get less money! Damned if yu do and danmed if you don’t.
