I heard in a blog from Patty Murray today a reflection of debates going on in DC. That being womens rights to preventive health care for cancer, and before and after school programs. These two things are going to be cut in major ways if not outright eliminated. I worry most about our children. I have seen horrendous things happen to latch key kids. Since mothers must work if they can find a job, it seems needful in the extreme for thier children to have a safe way to get to the school bus and a safe place to stay until Mommy can come and get them. With all the violence, rape, and neglect that can happen when kids are left alone, it seems unconscionable to me to just cut the funds, and leave them stranded. We may have no say in the matter, which leads me to request action. I believe there are churches who do food banking and have large enough facilities, which if volunteered would make good and safe space for children to be brought to, to be cared for by volunteer moms and grandmothers who are not working of choice or not. The care for the few hours before and after school could be paid for by donating 5 bucks or 5 pounds of food to the facility, thus increasing the level of community support, to get us through this horrific time. The money could be contributed to the maintenance of the building, and parents could volunteer an hour on the weekends to clean the part of the facility used for thier children. What do you folks think? Could this be a possible save for helpless moms and children? If you think yes, please suggest it to our senators and governor. If you know of places willing to support such an effort, that info would be exceedingly helpful. I believe we are going to have to step up, or see alot of suffering among our young people.
Please respond with whatever ideas or thoughts you may have. It’s terribly important. I want to organize something like this myself but have psoriatic arthritis and fibromyalgia, among other things, making the necessary physical involvement impossible, but for one or two hours a day, a few times per week. Please help?
